I agree with you to some extent. Micro services are not the solution for everything. If you are looking for higher levels of flexibility and scalability in your system, it makes sense. Otherwise monoliths are much simpler to manage. Regarding service mesh though, I think this will become de facto standard soon, if you choose the path of micro services.
