Coronavirus infects human beings and a computer virus infects machines. If we keep aside the difference of targets, their characteristics and behavior are quite similar. These programs, with the intentions to damage the machines, have adopted the patterns of real life virus so well that I doubt there could have been a better term for them.

Both damage the systems

Computer virus attacks the machine with different motives — political, monetary or personal amusement. These attacks cause software congestion, data corruptions, data theft and many other system failures. Every year billions of dollars are lost due to these attacks.

What computer virus is to a computer, coronavirus is to a human body. Irrespective of its motive, its damage is much severe. Infections in millions and hundreds of thousand deaths indicate a clear global disaster.

Though their origins, transport modes and physical targets are different but both of them cause significant loss to the human society.

Both spread vigorously

WannaCry was a ransom virus in May 2017. Within few days, it infected more than 200,000 systems across 150 countries.
